Welcome to the home page for Generation Education. Take a
look at What's New in our web.
Generation Education is a non-profit charitable organization founded by
Whitney Sun and Jennifer Shi during their freshman year of high school. They
aimed to bring education to all children, no matter what their circumstances may
be. Generation Education became a Youth Venture in
November of 2006, and we have received and purchased many educational
activities, books, and school supplies through donation drives and using our
grant money. This summer we organized and donated 15 boxes full of books and fun
activities to children in transitional housing at GRACE. At Christmas-time we
also purchased gifts for children in the youth shelter at All Church Home for
Children. We are now a 501(3)(c) Tax-Exempt Organization.
June/July - Generation Education formed a partnership with another Youth
Venture, Girls Helping Girls, by donating over 100 books and magazines to
their sponsored school in India.
August - We have now started a reading buddies program at All Church Home
for Children with three elementary school-aged children at their Carter
group home.
The 2007-2008 School Year
January 21- Our organization is officially Tax-Exempt. The application
process is complete, and we will now start applying for more grants.
In October, we ordered 6 subscriptions to kids/teen magazines for those at
the youth shelter at All Church Home for Children.
In September, we purchased over 100 school supplies for the students at
All Church Home for Children and dropped them off for them to distribute.
Announcements for Summer
On August 16, we dropped off all 15 boxes to GRACE and met with Deborah
Lyons, who is in charge of the transitional housing at GRACE. The boxes
contained educational activities for 15 children, aged 3-15, living in
transitional housing.
We have sent in our application for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status so that we
can receive grants from other organizations.
July 21
Next Meeting--we should be done with all the boxes for GRACE.
